Montessori Method in preschool

Katerina

We feel happy to have our son in Montessori preschool the last two years. The experienced teachers helped our child to learn English language, behaviour, to express his feelings, to work as a member of a team. They helped him to feel acceptable, to be more confident in an open clean, safe and friendly environment.

5 LEARNING AREAS

1. Practical Life

Exercises in Practical Life are the central point of Montessori education. While learning how to prepare food, lay the tables for dinner, pour liquids, sweep and vacuum the floor, children shape
their inner predispositions for peace, order, concentration, coordination and motoric skills. This helps the child to acquire self-confidence, achieve independence and obtain the skill of concentration.

2. Sensorics

While working with materials, children take objects apart, put them back together and think about what they are doing. This lets them exercise the skill of analysis, synthesis and judgement. This leads to asking questions and real creativity when they put the objects together again in new ways.

3. Language

The program of learning a language in the Montessori system aims at increasing the learners’ skills in the field of reading, comprehension, writing and speaking. The child learns also phonetic sounds and letter shapes. There is a quiet space with books, which provides the children with introduction to reading and love for books as well as familiarizes them with children’s literature, geography and science.

4. Mathematics

Montessori mathematics program consists of sequencing exercises, which start as more concrete lessons and then turn into abstraction. The exercises are introduced initially in a physical form by means of such devices as large numerical bars and spindles. Then, digits are introduced. One of the objectives of Montessori education is stimulating child’s reasoning skills by the development of mathematical mind.

5. Cultural Science

Apart from the elementary teaching curriculum, Your child will be involved in activities which imprint the love of culture for the entire life. The foreign cultures curriculum is presented through songs, stories and games, which introduce pupils to the cultures of other nations.  Every year the subject of geography is taught thoroughly. The pupils learn about physical and political geography, people and flags from distant countries and about cultural similarities which connect all the people.
