Handicraft

Crafting is the art of turning ordinary objects into extraordinary things

Handicraft has no age limit, it is enjoyed by everyone and there is no right or wrong. It is very important for us as they can reduce stress, building onto social connections and interactions.

Develop and strengthen fine/gross motor skills, focus and concentration and most importantly positive self-esteem. Knowing that we created something, that we can do it.
It is also essential for us not to forget old traditions and cultural heritage that has been created, handmade items are a huge part of preserving part of our history and it is something that modern technology can never replace, the skill of the hand. However the internet has opened up the world of crafts from around the world, giving us inspirations to create something that to us is unique.

Sigurbjörg Magnúsdóttir

About teacher:

I have been into handicraft since I was very young. At my local school in Iceland, we start taking haberdashery, woodworking and art classes at the age of six (1st grade).

Needless to say I always looked forward to those classes. I have made various items throughout the years such as chopping boards, dresses, cross stitch and other embroidery, glass trays, clay pots, crochet figurines, mini knitted hats etc.
I want to create a fun, safe and carefree environment, sharing ideas with each other. Mistakes are welcome, that is how we learn. Hoping I set a foundation that the children will take on throughout their life.
