The second stage of building

Walls are disappearing, space is opening up…

Demolition, debris removal, and cleaning — the second stage of building the new home of the English Montessori School is picking up speed.

In the second week of renovation work on the new EMS headquarters, the construction site has become unrecognisable. What, until recently, belonged to the past is now transforming into an open space, ready for the future.

Walls are coming down, possibilities are growing

The most striking stage was the demolition of the partition walls. The construction team carefully removed the barriers that had divided the space into small, enclosed rooms — the very opposite of what the new school’s design envisions.

The director’s office is already open.

“It’s not just about physically tearing down walls — what matters here is creating space for our students’ independence and creativity,” says Agnieszka Kocot-Łaszczyca, Managing Director of EMS. “Behind every demolished wall, there are more square meters of space — and new opportunities — waiting to emerge.”

The rubble is disappearing — order is returning

Right after the demolition, the next phase began: removing debris and cleaning the building. It’s a painstaking but essential part of the process. Through events like The EMS Build Up, we aim to engage the school community in helping with the new building. The construction site, once filled with rubble, is gradually regaining clarity, paving the way for the team to begin structural and installation work very soon.

“It’s a bit like cleaning up after an old story to make room for a new one…” says Mr. Maciek with a smile — the EMS handyman. “With every wheelbarrow of rubble, we’re getting closer to the school the EMS community has dreamed of for years.”

You can feel the energy of change in the air

Although it may seem like “dirty work,” the second week of construction had something symbolic about it. Clearing the building of its past is a bit like freeing it from limitations, just as the Montessori approach frees children from the constraints of a rigid education system.

In the background, early conversations are already taking place about the next stages, including the installation of large glass panels to fill the space with natural light and the design of learning environments that will inspire independence and discovery.

What’s next?

There’s still time to join the group of supporters. On Saturday, we held the second edition of The EMS Build Up, an event where everyone could get involved in shaping the future home of the English Montessori School.
